“It is youthful, primary, and ready to drink, and will pair well with an eclectic range of meals. Yum.” –Winery Reflections
Squeezed lime, citrus blossom, sweet honeydew melon. Underripe pear, leafy greens, green apple flesh. Pure and primary pulses of crunchy nectarine, lemon juice, and grapefruit zest highlight a delightfully tart and lively fruit core intriguingly overlaid with hints of mint leaf, water lily, and herbal tea. Subtle flecks of lemongrass, fresh basil, and root vegetables advance themes of lightly green natural tones that are beautifully offset by mild impressions of drizzled honey. Suggestions of sea spray, sandy soil, and stony minerality provide a pretty and pleasant backing of earthiness while enhanced by a delicate dash of white pepper. Crisp, clean, and dry on the palate while remaining delightfully well balanced and fresh; exhibiting wonderful typicity and expression of place inside a nervy, thirst-quenching, and food friendly presentation. Medium in body and backed by nicely elevated acidity. This 2019 “Fifth Moon” Edna Valley Grüner Veltliner by RD Winery is a terrifically fun and delicious white from San Luis Obispo County.
Although it is still found relatively rarely outside of its Austrian homeland, Grüner Veltliner is an unquestionably noble white grape that is capable of producing outstanding wine in many regions all over the world. This bottling, crafted by RD Winery using Grüner Veltliner sourced from within the Edna Valley, brilliantly showcases how well this exciting grape can thrive in California’s coolest coastal reaches. This wine contains excellent concentration of primarily citrus-led fruit accompanied by Grüner’s typical spicy, leafy, and herbal qualities alongside a blast of decidedly coastal earthiness. It is youthful, primary, and ready to drink, and will pair well with an eclectic range of meals. Yum.
