Hundred Knot Merlot Praised
PRESS | APR 11, 2022
We adore reading the transportive reviews from Winery Reflections. They’re so descriptive that we can practically taste the wine. Thank you for the glowing review!
Succulent dark plum, fragrant menthol, crème de cassis. Anise liqueur, new leather, chocolate covered açaí. Remarkably deep yet excitingly elegant waves of blackberry cobbler, black forest cherry, and blueberry highlight an extracted and thoroughly expressive display layered with irresistibly decadent notes of cocoa powder, graham cracker, and mocha. Wafts of violet oil, blooming iris, and lavender generously provide a range of rich floral overtones that dance alongside lifted hints of spearmint and Cuban cigar. Pronounced baking spices including vanilla, cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg further advance aromatics while subtle impressions of iron and loamy soil provide just a pinch of pleasant earthiness. Wonderfully pure, plump, and opulent on the palate white still remaining spectacularly well balanced and bright; exhibiting a bold yet unquestionably beautiful presentation that is temptingly rich, velvety, and delicious. Medium-plus in body with elevated yet soft tannin supported by bright acidity. This 2019 “Hundred Knot” Napa Valley Merlot by RD Winery is a lifted and luxurious red from California.
Although Cabernet Sauvignon is the undisputed king of Napa Valley viticulture, Merlot frequently makes an appearance in some of the region’s most iconic blends and is also capable of producing spectacular wine all on its own. This bottling, crafted by RD Winery using Merlot sourced from within Napa Valley, is an outstanding example of this variety’s ability to shape gorgeously plush and expressive wine. This booms with a deep and decadent black-fruited core enhanced by perfumed florals, minty herbal notes, lifted baking spices, and Merlot’s textbook chocolaty sheen. Although drinking well today this boasts the structure to cellar nicely, and would be an interesting wine to follow as it develops for 5-10 years or more. Excellent.
