Praise for
2019 Hundred Knot Grenache
“This wine unabashedly gushes a range of rich and plump red and black fruits complicated by intriguing herbal notes, sweet flowers, peppery spice, and pleasant earthiness.” –Winery Reflections
Strawberry compote, sweet peonies, Fresh black currant. Candied cherry, wild bramble, red licorice. Playfully expressive and outgoing bursts of blackberry, spiced plum, and raspberry liqueur radiate with expressive and outgoing luster while intriguing notes of underbrush, sage, and chaparral offset perceived sweetness with bits of herbal charm. Hints of vanilla, red pepper flakes, and coriander lead a range of diverse and eclectic spices that intersect with clean floral tones of crushed wildflowers and hydrangeas. Impressions of asphalt, iron, and scorched earth round out the display with understated soil tones that rest meekly behind the barrage of ripe and candied fruit. Notably deep, concentrated, and powerful on the palate with distinctly muscular and rugged leanings; exhibiting excellent typicity and expression of place within an attack that is broad shouldered yet wonderfully balanced. Full bodied with surprisingly grippy tannin and moderate acidity. This 2019 Rossi Ranch Vineyard “Hundred Knot” Grenache by RD Winery is a tremendously well made and enticing red from Sonoma Valley.
First planted in 1910 by the Rossi Family on their farm just outside Glen Ellen, the Rossi Ranch Vineyard is a legendary historic vineyard site that has long produced truly exceptional wine. This bottling, crafted by RD Winery using Grenache plus a bit of Mourvèdre and Syrah sourced from the Rossi Ranch Vineyard, showcases the delightful combination of power and complexity that this unique terroir has proven to produce. This wine unabashedly gushes a range of rich and plump red and black fruits complicated by intriguing herbal notes, sweet flowers, peppery spice, and pleasant earthiness. Though it is noticeably ripe and powerful this manages to remain wonderfully nuanced and well balanced, and has the structure to develop positively for 5 years or more without issue. Very nice.
